Tandem for sale!

Age makes it necessary to sell our beloved Erickson tandem travel bike. This was hand-built in 2006 by legendary frame and tandem builder Glenn Erickson in Seattle. It was one of the last tandems that Glenn made (he died in 2024 after a long illness). It is his “Signature” model, which features gorgeous fillet brazed, hand ground steel joints, and premium paint. It has stainless steel S&S couplers for travel and fits into two airline-legal hard cases. Full specs are listed below.

This bike has taken us on many adventures in the US, Canada, New Zealand, and Europe.  Despite its age, it’s ready to take you on many more! Major upgrades over the years include a Wound Up carbon fork, TRP Spyre disk brakes, Rock Shox rear seat post, complete drive train replacement and new wheels in 2020. As with any well-used travel bike it has several cosmetic scrapes and…

Experience flying with a tandem?

Anyone have experience flying with their tandem? My wife wants to ride the road to Hana in Maui on our tandem and looking for any experience folks have flying with a tandem.

Ya we did that ride last Feb, and flew in with our Santana. We stayed in a lovely hotel in Hana and rode back the next day. You really want to swim on that one in waterfall pool on the way so bring a suit :). Also no water on the route, but there is great food at the banana bread place. For the traveling with the bike, maybe you should give me a call to run through but a few thoughts:

  1. Bring spare parts, which means you’ll need on-frame storage for a change of clothes and a few parts

  2. We pack our tandem into three bags, not two, since it’s just easier and we have to put a lot of clothes around it anyway. So the fork/handlebars goes into a clothes bag.

  3. I have a screen shot of all our spares for tandem touring. Will share.

  4. Ride early and weekday since the traffic on that road can be heavy. We did in Feb and there was very little. It’s 55mi from where we road from and it’s long.

  5. You can continue clockwise around Maui but the day two is barren, no cell coverage, and some dirt and some rough roads and we were like “no” and just road back the next day the same road.

  6. For traveling, just remember sometimes the bike bags go through “oversized” so they need more time. Also, it’s not a bike, but “bike parts”, if anyone asks. Colin 303.358.6544
