 CTC Memorial Day Weekend Update

Upcoming RidesGary Johnson writes:

The CTC Memorial Day Weekend ride is nearing, the route maps have now been posted.

Download the route document here.

Here are a few things you might want to know, first of all if you are staying at the Clarion the name on the building is Glenwood Suites. It is located off of exit 114, south of I-70 on the right hand side.

We have set up 3 rides which we think you will enjoy. The first day we will meet at the Glenwood Suites Hotel at 9AM to go over the weekend plans. The first day of riding has options, since there is no other way to ride to Newcastle it is necessary to ride a little over 5 miles on I-70. If you prefer not to ride on the interstate or want less miles, we have set up a ride leaving from the City Market parking lot in Newcastle.
On day 2 there are also options, if you prefer to ride long miles you can leave from the hotel, if you want to experience the new bike path we would also suggest you leave from the hotel and ride through Carbondale and ride the bike path along the river on the Denver and Rio Grand path for as long as you like. There is no route map included for this option. The 3rd option is to start in Carbondale and ride to Redstone. Please print the routes you will be riding.

On day 3 we will not have an official start time allowing people to either go earlier or later based on their schedule for coming home.

Steamboat Springs Memorial Day Weekend - 2007

StoriesDoug Miller writes:

Mountain Views Hey club members what a great weekend of rides, camaraderie, scenery and food some of us had this past weekend in Steamboat Springs! Those that made the drive to Steamboat Springs to join Pat and Lynn from Tandem Cycle Works had a great time and super rides. There was about 36 tandem teams that took over the Bristol and Nordic hotels from Friday eve to Monday afternoon. We rode some spectacular valleys, with some climbing, little traffic and great scenery of farm life and rural living. These weekend rides are a great way to meet some new friends, renew with old ones and have a blast.

I hear rumors are already started about next year being in Glenwood Springs!

 Prague-Budapest

StoriesBob Smith writes:

Nearly every year since 1986, Anne and I have done at least one week of tandem touring somewhere in the world. This past August we rode from Prague to Budapest in 20 days. We started with two single day from Prague to Karlstein and Krivoklat Castles. From Prague we cycled southeast through the Czech Republic to Kutna Hora, Litomysl, Olomouc, Moravsky National Park and Mikolov and into Austria to the Danube River and into Vienna for a three night stay. From Vienna we cycled to Bratislava, Slovakia for two night and loop ride out Bratislava north along the Morava River on the Iron Curtain Bikeway and loop through a national park. From Bratislava we cycled to Esztergom the first capitol of Hungry and finally into Budapest for our final three nights.

This was a tour of a lifetime that almost didn’t happen. The first leg of our journey was delayed in Colorado Springs. We rearrange our flight from Dallas through London Gatwick with a bus transfer to London Heathrow. We arrived safely at Gatwick but without luggage. We were told we couldn’t file a lost luggage until we arrived in Prague. At lost luggage in Prague a very nice gentleman informed us that somehow our luggage arrived on another flight. No one knew which flight or by which airline. We were quite relieved.

LAF Ride 05 - Thank You Everyone!

StoriesJim Lawrence writes:

The Lance Armstrong Foundation Peloton Project 7th Annual Ride for the Roses was a success and a lot of fun.  Without the support of you, our family and friends, we would not have been able to participate.

There were over 6,500 riders registered to ride in the event, though the final count of how many rode on Sunday has not yet been released.  All 50 United States and 25 other countries were represented by the participants.  $7.3 million was raised for the foundation.  That exceeds the $7million goal set to commemorate Lance Armstrong’s 7 Le Tour de France victories.

Thanks to all of you our family was able to contribute over $2065 to the LAFoundation.  We each registered with the minimum $150 and put everything else under Jim’s name which meant he was one of 386 participants who raised more than $1000 and earned a LIVE STRONG jersey.

On Saturday there was the LIVESTRONG Kids Event

We registered to participate in the Family Adventure Challenge Race.  Jim, Victoria, and Katherine made up one team and Rebecca and Stephanie were another team.

The event started shortly after 8 a.m. at Auditorium Shores in Austin.  It was a great event with 17 challenges to try.  Teams had to complete 11 challenges in order for the children to earn their medals.  It was fun, and sometimes messy, with events like wheelbarrow races t a plate of whipped cream, painting with you nose, and filling a tennis ball container with water poured from a Frisbee.

Grandma and Grandpa and Nana and Pappy were there to watch, encourage and document the fun.

 Archive: Rush Miller Foundation

Announcing...........Looking for a new tandem? What to do with the old tandem? Look no further !

Donate your old tandem (tax benefits) to the Rush Miller Foundation. The foundation was formed in 2001 to help blind/visually impaired children enjoy the benefits of their first bike. The foundation is based in Pueblo and began when five year old Garrett Rush-Miller developed a brain tumor and became visually impaired. His parents identified the tandem as a perfect way to help little Garrett enjoy the outside world. A tandem bicycle is the perfect means for a blind child to participate in sports and enjoy the outdoors. Eleven children are listed on the website, waiting for a tandem bicyle. Please donate !

If you do not have a tandem, a tax-deductible donation will be most welcome.

Please visit http://www.rushmillerfoundation.org for more information.
